24 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came to the tomb, bringing the spices they had prepared. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb. They went in but did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men stood by them in dazzling clothes. So the women were terrified and bowed down to the ground. “Why are you looking for the living among the dead?” asked the men. “He is not here, but he has risen! Remember how he spoke to you when he was still in Galilee, saying, ‘It is necessary that the Son of Man be betrayed into the hands of sinful men, be crucified, and rise on the third day’?” And they remembered his words” (Luke 24:1-8 CSB).  This passage contains some of the most powerful words in the Bible: “Why are you looking for the living among the dead…He is not here, but he has risen!”  Death could not hold Him!  The tomb was empty!  Jesus was alive just as He had said!  The women had the most incredible message of human history to share: The world had a Savior and He was alive!

Easter is a few short weeks away.  As we prepare for it, we will celebrate the same message the women were given on that Sunday morning so long ago.  The message hasn’t changed nor has the need for the message.  Apart from God’s mercy in giving us a Savior, we have no hope of forgiveness.  But when we come to Him in faith we are not only forgiven of our sins, we are given eternal life.  That is the message of Easter.  It’s all about Jesus.

To help us understand Jesus’ love and sacrifice better, in the coming weeks we will take a brief look at Him as Prophet, Priest, and King.  Of course, the final message will be the climax as we see Him as the King of all creation who will defeat every enemy, including death itself.   We will also have a special service on Good Friday to think through the first Passover when God rescued His people from Egypt.  It will all remind us of God’s amazing love and the extent of His sacrifice to make that love real for us.  Please be praying with me that God will use these messages to His glory.
